26 People Charged in Alleged Bribery and Point-Shaving Scheme to Fix NCAA Men’s Basketball Games

At a news conference this week, United States Attorney David Metcalf announced charges against 26 people in connection with an alleged bribery and point-shaving scheme to fix NCAA Division I men’s basketball games and Chinese Basketball Association games.
The indictment alleges that, beginning in or about September 2022, a group of individuals, including defendants Fairley and Hennen, worked together to recruit and bribe players to help influence or “fix” Chinese Basketball Association (“CBA”) men’s basketball games through point shaving. The fixers, including Fairley and Hennen, bribed CBA players to underperform and help ensure their team failed to cover the spread in certain games and then arranged for large wagers to be placed on those games against that team.

Rare Goalie Fight Breaks Out at Florida Game
A rare goalie fight broke out with 14 minutes left in Monday night's game between the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers and San Jose Sharks that had become increasingly chippy with post-whistle pushing and shoving.
Florida's Sergei Bobrovsky beelined from his crease to even things up after San Jose's Alex Nedeljkovic injected himself into a scrum in the corner.
Canucks Planning Rebuild Season
Sitting last in the NHL and 12 points out of a playoff spot, the Vancouver Canucks appear to be setting their course for a rebuild.
TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reports the struggling Canucks are willing to consider all options as the trade deadline draws closer, including trading centre Elias Pettersson.
“Obviously, every club in the National Hockey League has untouchables, but management of the Vancouver Canucks is now using the rebuild word, so they have to be open for business, open for just about anything, and that might include finally trading Elias Pettersson," Dreger explained on Insider Trading Tuesday. “

Carlos Beltran Elected to Baseball Hall of Fame Despite Sign Stealing Scandal

Beltrán, the smooth-swinging former outfielder who had two stints with the Houston Astros, was elected Tuesday to the Baseball Hall of Fame, gaining entry in his fourth year of eligibility on the writers’ ballot.
His candidacy included controversy from his final season in Houston. Beltrán was the lone player named in Major League Baseball’s report on the sign-stealing scheme the Astros used in 2017 en route to winning a World Series, a revelation that led to his dismissal as Mets manager in January 2020, before he had managed a game for the club, and deterred some Hall of Fame voters from supporting him during his initial years on the ballot.
MLB Owners Raging After Kyle Tucker Deal
A group of Major League Baseball team owners are apparently so upset with the Los Angeles Dodgers that they are going to push for a salary cap in the sport in the near future.
The club owners, according to The Athletic's Evan Drellich, are “raging” after the Dodgers struck a deal to bring in Kyle Tucker in free agency this offseason. So much so, in fact, that it is a “100% certainty” that they will push for a salary cap.

Indiana defeats Miami to win the College Football Playoffs

The Indiana Hoosiers are the college football national champions for the first time ever. Top-seeded Indiana defeated No. 10 Miami (Fla.) in the 2025-26 College Football Playoff National Championship Game 27-21 to secure the win.
A lot of guts. That's what it took to win a national title," Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti said.
It took a lot of guts for Cignetti to boldly believe he would turn around an Indiana program that finished 2-10, 4-8 and 3-9 into a national championship winner back when he took the job two years ago.
Buffalo Bills Fire Head Coach Sean McDermott
The Buffalo Bills announced that Sean McDermott has been relieved of his duties as head coach on Jan. 19, 2026.
"Sean has done an admirable job of leading our football team for the past 9 seasons," said Owner Terry Pegula. "But I feel we are in need of a new structure within our leadership to give this organization the best opportunity to take our team to the next level. We owe that to our players and to Bills Mafia."
"Sean helped change the mindset of this organization and was instrumental in the Bills becoming a perennial playoff team. I respect all the work, loyalty and attention to detail he showed for this team and the community. I wish Sean, Jamie and his family all the best."
