Bears fire head coach after losing 6 straight

The Chicago Bears fired head coach Matt Eberflus on Friday, a day after a 23-20 loss to the Detroit Lions in which poor clock management marred a late-game comeback.

General manager Ryan Poles and team president Kevin Warren informed Eberflus of the decision, acknowledging his hard work but emphasizing the need for a change in leadership.

Thomas Brown, the team's interim offensive coordinator, will take over as interim head coach while continuing to call plays for the offense, especially to aid rookie quarterback Caleb Williams.

Eberflus' tenure, which began in 2022, was marred by poor results, including a 14-32 overall record and a historically bad 5-19 mark in one-score games. Despite early optimism, including retaining him after a rough 2023 season, the Bears' struggles in both offense and defense led to his dismissal.

Brawl breaks out after Ohio State loss

One of the biggest upsets in the history of one of college football’s most heated rivalries ended with a fight.

In the moments after Michigan secured a stunning 13-10 victory against archrival Ohio State on Saturday at Ohio Stadium, Wolverines and Buckeyes players got into a skirmish near midfield.

The ruckus appeared to be ignited by a group of Wolverines players attempting to plant a maize-and-blue Michigan flag on the Ohio State midfield logo.

Bruins set for Centennial celebration of 1st game anniversary

The Boston Bruins are celebrating their 100th anniversary, marking the occasion of their first NHL game on December 1, 1924, where they defeated the Montreal Maroons 2-1.

To honor the milestone, the team will play their Centennial game at TD Garden against their longtime rivals, the Montreal Canadiens, in the 6,898th regular-season game in franchise history.

The celebration includes the unveiling of the Bruins' Centennial Legacy Monument, a massive bear-shaped sculpture, at Portal Park near the arena.

The monument, created by sculptor Harry Weber, stands as a tribute to the team's legacy and connection to the city of Boston, with an inscription celebrating the Bruins' values of grit, passion, and community involvement.

1st Blackhawks owner entered into Hockey Hall of Fame

Major Frederic B. McLaughlin not only was part of the NHL for much longer than the proverbial cup of coffee, the Chicago Black Hawks’ first owner was indeed a coffee baron.

Now, the legendary business and sports tycoon is to be inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame as part of its Class of 2024, enshrined posthumously on Dec. 4 in Pittsburgh for his role in popularizing the game in his native country and, specifically, in his hometown of Chicago.

Sixty-one years after he was inducted as a Builder in the Hockey Hall of Fame’s Class of 1963, McLaughlin now is being celebrated in the U.S. for his enthusiastic, vital work.
