Clippers star declared ineligible for any NBA awards

Tee NBA season is in full swing, and some teams are approaching the 20-game mark. For the Los Angeles Clippers, they played their 18th game of the season Sunday against the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Clippers have been playing some great basketball, and this is all without their superstar forward, Kawhi Leonard. Leonard has yet to play this season, and with the Clippers playing their 18th game, that makes Leonard ineligible for any NBA awards this season.

This means that Leonard will not be eligible to win MVP or make an All-NBA team, All-Star team, or All-Defensive team.

Hornets’ Williams out for rest of season

Charlotte Hornets forward Grant Williams sustained season-ending tears to the ACL, meniscus and associated ligaments in his right knee, sources told ESPN on Sunday.

Williams, who is averaging 10.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game this season, was injured late in the fourth quarter of Saturday's 125-119 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks when he was driving to the basket with just under four minutes remaining.

Jets begin head coach and GM search

The New York Jets will search for their next general manager and head coach with help from a familiar face.

Mike Tannenbaum, who served as Gang Green's general manager from 2006-2012, and his "NFL technology and media company," The 33rd Team, will assist in New York's hiring process, the team announced Monday.

Jets owner Woody Johnson will lead the hiring process, as Tannenbaum, former Vikings GM Rick Spielman and The 33rd Team "help identify and vet candidates in addition to coordinate interviews."

New York "will have access to the group's unique data analysis including trends and highlights in the hiring of football leadership," the Jets said of their partnership with The 33rd Team.

Ex-Giants QB clears waivers, becomes free agennt

The New York Giants benched quarterback Daniel Jones last week, and he was expected to remain a backup until the team moved on from him this offseason. However, the Giants instead parted ways with their former No. 6 overall pick immediately.

On Friday, the Giants announced that Jones had asked for his release, and that the team would grant Jones his request. Jones officially headed to waivers Saturday, and cleared waivers on Monday. He is officially an unrestricted free agent and can sign with any team.

Blues fire head coach and hire Jim Montgomery

The St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced this morning that the team has relieved Drew Bannister of his coaching duties. In addition, the Blues have signed Jim Montgomery to a five-year contract to become the 28th head coach in franchise history.

Montgomery, 55, has spent the previous two-plus seasons with the Boston Bruins. During his tenure, the Montreal, Quebec, native led the Bruins to the top regular-season record and point total in the NHL (120-41-23, 263 points) as well as consecutive playoff appearances in 2023 and 2024.

Crosby scores 600th NHL goal

Sidney Crosby scored to reach 600 goals in the NHL on Saturday.

The Pittsburgh Penguins center achieved the milestone in a 6-1 loss to the Utah Hockey Club at PPG Paints Arena.

"Yeah, I mean, it feels good," Crosby said. "Obviously, we’re down in the game, feel like we got some energy off of that. The crowd was into it. It was a good feeling. Obviously, it would have been nice to build off it."

The 37-year-old became the 21st player to hit the mark and second active player to do so, after Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin, who has 868 goals. Crosby joined Mario Lemieux (690) as the only players to score 600 for the Penguins.

Portland mayor confident about expansion team

Portland Mayor-Elect Keith Wilson is optimistic about his city's chances of landing a Major League Baseball franchise in the future.

"I'd say this is as close as we've come," Wilson said during an appearance on a local television show, according to The Oregonian. "We feel confident it's down to us and one other city. And we're making a solid play."

It's unclear which other city Wilson has in mind -- Nashville would seem to be an obvious candidate -- but Portland's desire to enter the baseball industry is nothing new. CBS Sports reported on the Portland Diamond Project's attempts at landing a team as far back as 2019.

MLB makes schedule changes as result of hurricane

Major League Baseball announced some changes to its 2025 schedule as a result of the Tampa Bay Rays playing their home games at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa next season due to the damage sustained at Tropicana Field during Hurricane Milton.

"These proactive schedule adjustments have been made to optimize the number of games played in the best weather conditions given the Rays’ transition to an outdoor ballpark," a statement issued by MLB said.
