Dodgers steal Game 7 in extras to repeat as World Series champs

Miguel Rojas cranked a tying home run off Jeff Hoffman in the top of the ninth, saved the game with a stellar defensive play in the bottom half, then watched his catcher, Will Smith, win it in extra innings.
Smith provided the Los Angeles Dodgers with their first lead in Game 7 of the World Series with a solo home run in the top of the 11th, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto finished the Toronto Blue Jays in the bottom half, sealing a thrilling 5-4 victory on Saturday night that brought yet another championship to L.A.
Former Guardians coach hired as Twins manager

The Minnesota Twins have hired former Cleveland Guardians hitting coach Derek Shelton as the teamās next manager, the organization announced Thursday.
Shelton, 55, replaces former Twins manager Rocco Baldelli, who was fired in September after seven seasons as manager, including a 70-92 record this past season.

Mavericks Sue Dallas Stars
The Dallas Mavericks took the first step in a growing legal battle this month by filing a lawsuit against the Dallas Stars, accusing the NHL team of blocking planned upgrades at the American Airlines Center.
The Mavericksā suit claims the Stars are āholding the American Airlines Center hostageā and violating agreements made decades ago to maintain both teamsā corporate headquarters in Dallas through 2031, according to The Dallas Morning News.
In their filing, the Mavericks contend that the Stars have violated a 1998 agreement between the two franchises, which requires both teamsā headquarters to be located within the City of Dallas.
Chris Tanev hospitalized after collision in Maple Leafsā win
Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Chris Tanev was taken to the hospital after an on-ice collision with another player in Saturday nightās 5-2 win over Philadelphia but had movement in all extremities, coach Craig Berube said.
Tanev collided with Philadelphia forward Matvei Michkov with 11:37 to play in the game. The contact was shoulder-to-shoulder, but Tanevās head snapped back upon contact and he stayed face down on the ice.

NBA referee headset communication to begin Nov. 1

The National Basketball Association (NBA) announced today that NBA referees will use headsets to communicate in real time with the NBA Replay Center and one another, beginning with games on Nov. 1.
In the first phase, each referee will have an earpiece clipped on their uniform. The referees will unclip the earpiece and place it in their ears only during instant replay review and as needed during other stoppages, but not during live play.
The second phase of use will begin with earpieces being worn throughout the game, including during live play, beginning in January. During the second phase, referees will be able to communicate directly with the Replay Center and each other during at all times during the game. The second phase will run through at least the NBA All-Star break in February.

State of the Dolphins: Can Mike McDaniel rally the troops?
Standing at a lectern inside Cleveland's Huntington Bank Field, a normally loquacious Mike McDaniel did not mince words.
A 31-6 loss to the Cleveland Browns will do that to a head coach.
The Miami Dolphins looked listless in rainy conditions in Week 7. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw three interceptions before he was pulled in the fourth quarter. Social media activity swirled around the possibility of McDaniel coaching his final game.
McDaniel then promised changes.
Veteran SEC Official Permanently Suspended by Conference, per Report
In one of the marquee matchups in Week 7 of the college football season, the No. 10 Georgia Bulldogs took down the Auburn Tigers, 20-10, but not without controversy.
There were a number of questionable calls from the officiating crew in Auburnās Jordan-Hare Stadium, led by Ken Williamson, that have led to plenty of discourse following the matchup.
According to a report by Grayson Everett of Yellowhammer News, Williamson has been āpermanently suspendedā from officiating conference games. Everett reports that of the 11 formal complaints submitted against Williamsonās crew, nine of them were āvalidatedā by conference officials.
