Eagles win Super Bowl
The Philadelphia Eagles dominated the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX, proving themselves as the NFL's top team.
Jalen Hurts led the charge with two touchdown passes and solid rushing, while the Eagles' defense stifled Patrick Mahomes, who threw two interceptions.
The Chiefs, aiming for a third consecutive Super Bowl win, struggled from the start and couldn't recover.
The Eagles' victory marked their second Super Bowl win in eight years, while the Chiefs now face uncertainty about their future after a season full of vulnerabilities.
Charted: The Rising Cost of Super Bowl Ads
As of 2025, a 30-second Super Bowl commercial costs $8 million, making the $37,500 fee from 1965 look tiny in comparison. However, over the same period, the average number of people viewing these ads has ballooned from around 24 million to more than 115 million (roughly one-third of the U.S. population).
The massive increases in ad costs and viewership reflect the enduring popularity of the Super Bowl, as well as its positioning as a unique event that attracts colossal audiences.

Lakers rescind trade for Mark Williams
The Los Angeles Lakers have rescinded the trade to acquire Charlotte Hornets big man Mark Williams after he failed the team's physical, per Shams Charania.
The trade, widely seen as a massive win for the Lakers who had the intention of pairing Williams with newly acquired superstar Luka Doncic, won't go through due to what the Lakers officially say is a "failure to satisfy a condition of the trade" on the Hornets' part.
Mavericks beef up security after threats to General Manager
Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison has reportedly been receiving death threats ahead of the NBA team's first home game since trading star point guard Luka DonΔiΔ.

Russia banned from IIHF competition
Russia and Belarus will continue to be banned from international ice hockey competitions for the 2025-26 season, the IIHF announced on Tuesday citing security concerns.
In a statement, the IIHF said it "believes it is not yet safe to reintegrate" both countries, which have not been able to participate in world hockey events since Russia began its invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
The decision could have major implications for the 2026 Olympics in Milan, although the IOC will have final say over if Russia can participate and under what conditions.
