Fight breaks out between Rockets and Heat, 6 ejected

A fight between Tyler Herro and Amen Thompson which sparked an all-in scuffle marred the finish to the Miami Heat’s win at the Houston Rockets.

As play was about to resume with a Heat in bound pass with 35.7 seconds left in the game, and the away side leading by five, Herro and Thompson locked horns.

Herro pressed up against Thompson before slipping in front of him in an apparent attempt to receive the pass, but the 21-year-old Rockets’ guard grabbed Herro’s jersey and they got in each other’s faces.

They scuffled with one another before Thompson slug Herro to the ground and just about every member of both sides charged in to get involved in the situation.

Home of Mavericks star Luka Doncic burglarized

The home of Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic was burglarized Friday night, his business manager, Lara Beth Seager, told ESPN, in what is the latest in a series of break-ins at the residences of high-profile athletes.

"No one was home at the time, and thankfully, Luka and his family are safe," Seager said. "Luka has filed a police report, and an investigation is ongoing."

Jewelry valued at about $30,000 was stolen, the Dallas Morning News reported, according to an internal police report it obtained.

The NFL and NBA issued security alerts to players after the previous break-ins, urging them to take additional precautions to secure their homes.

Colts HC Shane Steichen on job security following elimination

The Indianapolis Colts were officially eliminated from playoff contention on Sunday with an ugly loss to the New York Giants that has raised questions about the job security of head coach Shane Steichen.

Asked if he was concerned for his job, Steichen said the matter was out of his hands.

"I control what I can control," he said bluntly.

Steichen had few answers for what happened in Sunday's 45-33 loss, which dropped the Colts to 7-9 and put Steichen one game below .500 (16-17) in his two seasons at the helm.

2025 NFL Draft order: Major shakeup at the top

There was some major shakeup at the top of the 2025 NFL Draft order in Week 17. The New York Giants, who controlled their own destiny to secure the No. 1 pick, put up 45 points to upset the Indianapolis Colts.

And if that wasn't enough, the Jacksonville Jaguars took down the Tennessee Titans and the Las Vegas Raiders won their second straight game after winning just two of their first 14 to open the season.

That's three teams with three or fewer wins securing victories in the same week -- the first time that's happened in Week 17 or later since 2005, according to CBS Sports research.

Those results produced the following: The New England Patriots now hold the top spot, followed by the Titans, Giants, Browns and Jaguars. Of those teams, Cleveland is the only one still left to play. It is currently taking on the Miami Dolphins.

Red Wings fire coach, name interim

Luke Richardson was fired as coach of the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday.

Anders Sorensen, the coach of Chicago's American Hockey League affiliate in Rockford, was named interim coach. The 49-year-old is the first Sweden-born coach in NHL history, according to NHL Stats.

General manager Kyle Davidson said Friday that Sorensen will coach Chicago for the remainder of the season and he doesn't forsee any more changes to the coaching staff.

"Our plan here is to see out the year and then run a thorough process after that," Davidson said, "but it is an opportunity for him to show what he’s got."

Richardson was 57-118-15 in three seasons with the Blackhawks, who are last in the NHL this season at 8-16-2.

Investigation launched into Dallas Stars

As the NHL returned to games following the holiday break, and investigation has been opened against the Dallas Stars. According to Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet’s Saturday Headlines, the Stars allegedly held an improper practice with a coach present.

Friedman states that the Stars are cooperating with the league in the investigation as this is something the NHL has cracked down on quite a bit. Teams are not permitted to hold official practices or even travel to where their next game is taking place until cleared by the league.

As a precedent, the Toronto Maple Leafs were fined $100,000 a couple of years ago for traveling to their next city before officially being allowed. Same thing with the Philadelphia Flyers about a decade ago.

“There are rules about what you’re not allowed to do,” Friedman said. “You’re not allowed to practice, you are not allowed to provide ice to players. The Stars had some kind of skate on Boxing Day, and that has gotten the league’s attention.”More

Dodgers expected to discuss extension for head coach

The Los Angeles Dodgers are expected to discuss a contract extension with manager Dave Roberts this offseason, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times.

Roberts' current contract expires after the 2025 season, and the Dodgers are likely to avoid a "lame duck" situation by extending him sooner rather than later. Since joining the Dodgers in 2016, Roberts has led the team to nine consecutive postseason appearances, eight division titles, four NL Pennants, and two World Series championships.

He boasts an impressive .627 winning percentage, the highest in MLB history for managers with at least 1,000 games managed.

Given his consistent success, Roberts could command a record-breaking extension.
