Ovechkin Breaks Getzkyās NHL Goal Record

Alex Ovechkin scored his 895th goal to surpass Wayne Gretzky for the most in NHL history in the Washington Capitalsā 4-1 loss to the New York Islanders at UBS Arena on Sunday.
The 39-year-old forward set the record at 7:26 of the second period. With Washington on a power play, Ovechkin took a pass from Tom Wilson and sent a wrist shot past Ilya Sorokin blocker side from the top of the left face-off circle to cut New Yorkās lead to 2-1.
Ovechkin also owns the NHL records for power-play goals (325), overtime goals (27) and game-winning goals (136), which he set Friday with his 894th goal
Anthony Duclair steps away from Islanders following coach Roy's comment: 'He's god awful'

New York Islanders forward Anthony Duclair (29) has stepped away from the team following head coach Patrick Roy's comments after a game, saying he minimized the player's time because "he was god awful."
Following a 4-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, Roy didn't sugarcoat his thoughts on Duclair's play in which he posted a -1 +/- in 12:15 ice time.
"He was god awful," said Roy. "He had a bad game. That's why I didn't play him a lot. He is lucky to be in the lineup.

Glen Taylor relents, agrees to transfer Timberwolves ownership

Multiple sources say longtime Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx owner Glen Taylor has struck an agreement to transfer ownership of the team to Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez, leaving just one more step in what has been a long and bitter battle for control of the NBA franchise.
Taylor has agreed not to challenge a decision by arbitrators that ruled in favor of Lore and Rodriguez, who Taylor alleged had missed deadlines and violated terms of the purchase agreement hammered out in 2021.
Celtics break NBA record for 3-pointers in a season
The Boston Celtics broke the NBA record for 3-pointers in a season Friday night against the Phoenix Suns.
They set the mark, surpassing Golden Stateās total from two seasons ago, when Payton Pritchard hit a left-wing shot 3:40 into the second quarter for No. 1,364.
Boston finished 14 of 39 from 3-point range in the 123-103 victory to push its season total to 1,370. Boston also is third in league history, connecting on 1,351 en route to the NBA title last season.

Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred says the torpedo bat is "absolutely good for baseball" after it rose to prominence last week following a battery of home runs by the New York Yankees.
I believe that issues like the torpedo bat and the debate around it demonstrate the fact that baseball still occupies a unique place in our culture because people get into a complete frenzy over something that's really nothing at the end of the day. The bats comply with the rules.
Clemente Jr. unhappy about Pirates removing sign honoring his Hall of Fame father

The Pittsburgh Pirates have angered the family of the late Roberto Clemente by removing a sign honoring the franchise icon on the right-field wall at PNC Park.
The sign featured Clementeās name and his No. 21. Replacing it is an advertisement for Surfside, an alcoholic drink.
The right-field wall at PNC Park stands 21 feet high in honor of Clemente.
The Pirates said in a statement that the sign, which had been on the wall since 2022, was meant to be a temporary adornment. However, Roberto Clemente Jr. expressed his unhappiness on Sunday in a statement.
