Florida Panthers Win Stanley Cup in Back to Back Years

The first 25 years of the Florida Panthers’ existence was anything but synonymous with hockey success. The Panthers made the NHL postseason only five times and advanced past the second round just once, all while cycling through 10 coaches.

Now, they are hockey’s most dominant franchise — again.

On Tuesday, Florida won its second consecutive Stanley Cup title by outlasting Edmonton in a repeat of last year’s final, winning 5-1 in Game 6 to continue its nearly overnight transformation into one of hockey's most successful franchises. It was the third straight season Florida had played for a title, a run that coincides with the hiring of coach Paul Maurice.

Recapping the Winning Stanley Cup Game

Sam Reinhart scored four goals, Sergei Bobrovsky made 28 saves, and the Panthers repeated as Stanley Cup champions by defeating the Edmonton Oilers 5-1 in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final at Amerant Bank Arena on Tuesday.

Reinhart’s four goals tied the record for most in a Stanley Cup Final game, and he became the second player in NHL history with four goals in a Stanley Cup-clinching win. He also had the first four-goal game and hat trick in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in Panthers history.

NBA Finals MVP Ladder: Legendary Finals run keeps Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on top

hen the closest competition for the NBA Finals MVP award is your teammate, that means you’re in a very good place. At the very least, assuming all goes well, the worst that could happen is you ā€œsettleā€ for just an NBA championship.

At this point, however, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is well-positioned to have it all.

With Oklahoma City up 3-2 in this series, he has two chances to get two trophies — the championship and also the Finals MVP. If secured, those honors would be the crowning achievement in a season full of them: All-Star starter, First Team All-NBA, scoring title, Western Conference Finals MVP and of course, regular season Kia MVP.

NBA Trade Rumors Roundup: Kevin Durant wants Spurs not Timberwolves, Suns made no promises

While there are three teams Durant reportedly is open to signing an extension with — Miami, Houston, and San Antonio — it’s playing for the Spurs alongside Victor Wembanyama that he most wants, according to The Athletic’s Sam Amick and Jon Krawczynski. There’s a logical fit there: Durant playing between Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox speeds up the timeline and instantly vaults the Spurs to the top tier in the West, making them a real threat.

Except that may not be what the Spurs want. Minnesota has genuine interest in a Durant trade — he is Anthony Edwards’ idol, and he could help get them over the top — but Durant has no interest in going there.

Kyle Hendricks leads Angels to 2nd straight shutout of Yankees

The Angels’ soft-throwing right-hander pitched six innings in a 4-0 victory over the New York Yankees on Tuesday night.

Statistically, the Yankees have been one of baseball’s highest scoring teams and the Angels have been one of the worst at preventing runs, but the Angels nonetheless shut out the Yankees in the first two games of this series.

The Angels (35-37) became the first team since the Toronto Blue Jays in 2015 to shut out the Yankees in back-to-back games at Yankee Stadium. No other team has accomplished that feat at this ballpark, which opened in 2009. The Yankees (42-30) were also shut out on Sunday in Boston.

Aaron Judge Hits Farthest Home Run of Any Players This Season

Judge’s first swing of the night on Tuesday in the Yankees' 10-2 win sent a middle-middle fastball a Statcast-projected 469 feet -- the longest home run of the season for the two-time AL MVP and the longest at Kauffman Stadium this year.

Bradley Chubb: Dolphins 'were lying' about culture change last year

There was plenty of focus on a culture change prior to the Miami Dolphins' 2024 campaign.

Dealing with a torn ACL, Bradley Chubb didn't play a down for the Dolphins last year, but he was close enough to see any talk of a difference in ethos was a farce.

"I'm going to say last year, we were lying, honestly," Chubb said this week, via team transcript. "Point blank, period. We felt it. We put our toe in the water, but we didn't dive all the way in. We didn't get all the way there with each other. We weren't making the effort to go the extra mile and I would say this year, we're doing that."
