Carlos Correa back in Houston as Astro, Alex Bregman as visitor

Carlos Correa and Alex Bregman were back at Daikin Park on Monday.

But while Correa was making his triumphant return home after a recent blockbuster trade that brought him back to the Houston Astros from the Minnesota Twins, Bregman was in the ballpark for the first time as a visitor after signing with the Boston Red Sox this offseason.

Houston held off a late rally to win the opener of the three-game series 7-6.

Bregman was honored with a pregame video welcoming him back to Houston and highlighting his many accomplishments with the team.

World Series to start Oct. 24 as MLB drops plan to start early

Major League Baseball dropped its plan to start the World Series early if both league championship series are short, announcing Tuesday that this year's Fall Classic will start Oct. 24.

MLB last year said Game 1 would move up from Oct. 25 to Oct. 22 if the championship series ended by Oct. 19, when both leagues were scheduled to be through Game 5.

Meredith, Madeline Gaudreau to announce foundation honoring Johnny, Matthew

Meredith Gaudreau has been waiting to tell the world about the foundation that will honor her late husband, Johnny, and his brother, Matthew.

On Wednesday at 7:30 a.m., on what would've been Johnny's 32nd birthday, she and Matthew's wife, Madeline, will appear on ABC's "Good Morning America" to publicly launch the John and Matthew Gaudreau Foundation.

It was less than a year ago when Johnny and Matthew were killed after being struck by an alleged drunk driver while bicycling in New Jersey on Aug. 29, 2024, one day before what was supposed to be their sister's wedding.

Johnny, who played his first full eight NHL seasons with the Calgary Flames, was getting ready for his third with the Columbus Blue Jackets. Matthew, who would've turned 30 this past December, was preparing for his first season as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia Rebels of the North American Hockey League.

NBA returns to NBC, debuts on Peacock opening night, Oct. 21

The NBA opens its season on that October Tuesday with tip-off doubleheader on NBC and Peacock: The Houston Rockets at the Oklahoma City Thunder on the night that OKC raises its championship banner; then, one of the NBA’s great rivalries resumes as Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors travel to Los Angeles to take on LeBron James and the Lakers.

Those games were announced this morning by NBC Sports and the NBA on the TODAY show (another six games coming to Peacock and NBC also were announced).

Celtics change course as Wyc Grousbeck will no longer stay on as governor during ownership shift, per report

When news broke in March that the Boston Celtics would be sold for $6.1 billion to an investor group led by Bill Chisholm, in the press release it was also announced that Wyc Grousbeck, the then-owner of the team, would stay on as governor until 2028.

It was understood that Grousbeck would stay in his role and oversee basketball operations until the 2027-28 season to help with the transition of power to the new ownership group. However, that has now changed as ESPN reported Tuesday that Grousbeck will not remain governor of the team and that Chisholm will assume the title of governor "soon."

That's a massive reversal, but not entirely surprising given we just saw this happen not too long ago with the Dallas Mavericks.

Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers doesn't like new helmet, says 'it looks like a darn spaceship out there'

When he decided to play a 21st NFL season, Aaron Rodgers outlasted another seasoned veteran: his helmet.

The NFL's annual laboratory testing finally forced the retirement of Rodgers' preferred helmet model, the Schutt Air XP Pro Q11 LTD, a 2012 version of Rodgers' helmet of choice throughout his two decade-long career.

That meant Rodgers would need to try a few different models -- while still being perhaps the only active player to wear the soft cup chin strap -- before the start of the 2025 campaign.

So far, he's not having fun shopping.

Lions' Morice Norris Jr. shares good news after he was taken off field in ambulance

Detroit Lions safety Morice Norris Jr. shared a social post Saturday, saying he's OK and thanking people for their support after he was taken off the field in an ambulance late in a preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Norris reposted a screenshot about being grateful along with a Bible verse, adding a message of his own.

"I'm all good man don't stress," he said, adding he appreciates all of the check-ins and support.

Norris was in stable condition late Friday night after he was attended to for about 20 minutes by medical personnel and taken to an Atlanta hospital.

The 24-year-old Norris was hurt with 14:50 left in the preseason game after hitting Falcons running back Nate Carter. He hit Carter with his facemask facing the running back's midsection and his head snapped back after assisting on the tackle.
