Thunder beat Pacers in Game 7 to win franchise’s first NBA title in Oklahoma City

The Thunder became NBA champions on Sunday evening, topping the Indiana Pacers 103-91 to capture Oklahoma City’s first major pro sports title.

Oklahoma City’s Game 7 answer, as during their dominant regular season, was youth.

NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 29 points and dished 12 assists to lead his team, supported by strong efforts from forward Jalen Williams (20 points) and Chet Holmgren (18 points, eight rebounds).

The game was won amid decibel counts above 100, with thousands of Thunder fans stamping in unison as the team’s trio of young stars pushed the club toward the franchise’s first title since moving from Seattle in 2008.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander named 2025 NBA Finals Most Valuable Player

Completing the longest season of his basketball life, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander finished with a flourish Sunday night. The Oklahoma City MVP and scoring champion led his team to its first NBA championship and earned the Bill Russell Finals MVP award.

Gilgeous-Alexander led the NBA in scoring with 32.7 ppg, earned All-NBA First Team honors for the second time and was voted the 2024-25 Most Valuable Player by a healthy margin over Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokić.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have some big decisions to make in the coming weeks, including the future of star Mitch Marner as he heads to free agency.

Marner has reached the end of his six-year, $65 million contract with the Maple Leafs and is expected to be one of the most sought-after targets in free agency.

Though there has been no clear movement toward an extension with the Maple Leafs, one insider believes that Marner could find his way back to Toronto for the near future.

Cubs legend Sammy Sosa returns to Wrigley Field after 20-plus-year hiatus

Legendary Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa returned to Wrigley Field for the first time in more than 20 years on Friday before Chicago's afternoon game with the Seattle Mariners.

Sosa, who is set to be inducted into the Cubs' team Hall of Fame this year was greeted by owner Tom Ricketts, who embraced him in a hug as he exited the vehicle.

Sosa became the face of the Cubs franchise where he played 13 seasons after coming in a trade from the crosstown White Sox in March 1992. A seven-time All-Star, Sosa hit 545 homers in 1,811 games with the Cubs and hit a franchise-record 66 in 1998 when he was named the NL's MVP.

MLB All-Star Game voting: Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge maintain leads

Major League Baseball on Monday released the latest update on voting for the upcoming All-Star Game at Truist Park in suburban Atlanta. 

As was the case with the first update on the fan vote, which determines the All-Star starting lineups, Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees remains the overall leading vote-getter. Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers remains the leading vote-getter in the National League.
